Chat
Describe what you need in plain language and let Agentican build the plan.
Overview
The chat panel is the primary way to interact with Agentican. It's a conversational interface on the right side of the screen where you describe tasks and Agentican generates executable plans in response.
How Chat Works
When you send a message, Agentican analyzes your request and responds with one of:
- A plan — A structured workflow with steps, agent assignments, and tool selections
- A clarifying question — If the request is ambiguous
- A text response — For general questions or guidance
The conversation is contextual — you can refine your request through follow-up messages. For example:
- "Create a competitor analysis report"
- "Add a step that emails the report to the marketing team"
- "Use the Content Marketing agent for the writing step"
Plan Generation
When Agentican generates a plan, it appears as a structured card in the chat showing:
- Plan name and description
- Each step with its assigned agent and tools
- Step dependencies and execution order
You can review the plan and choose to:
- Run — Execute the plan immediately, creating a task
- Save — Save the plan for later reuse
- Refine — Send follow-up messages to modify the plan
Chat Features
Markdown Support
Chat responses render full markdown including headers, lists, code blocks, bold/italic text, and links.
Conversation History
Your conversation persists within the current session. Use the clear button to start a fresh conversation.
Resizable Panel
Drag the left edge of the chat panel to resize it. Make it wider for complex plans or narrower to focus on the main content area.
Best Practices
- Be specific — "Research Q4 pricing for Competitor X using their website and our Salesforce data" produces better plans than "Do some research"
- Mention tools — If you want agents to use specific tools, say so: "Send the summary via Slack to #marketing"
- Iterate — Start with a rough request, then refine the generated plan through follow-up messages
- Review before running — Always review the generated plan before clicking Run, especially for plans that use external tools
